Dance of Fights

Existing in a context of oppression and exploitation is the core of ΓÇÿDance of FightsΓÇÖ; resistance in its widest meaning. A space to explore the common roots underlying distant, yet connected struggles (thinking about capitalism, colonialism, patriarchy, militarism and more).

The aim is to open a new space for art, cultural exchange, debate and community building. ItΓÇÖs going to give a platform to artists who canΓÇÖt access conventional cultural spaces; either because theyΓÇÖre part of a minority, emerging or censored.

The title ‘Dance of Fights’ encapsulates the essence of the event. ‘Fight’ refers both to internal and external tension. Inevitably, living in a world that hinders humanity creates contradictory feelings and emotions. In less privileged circumstances, the fight becomes external… a fight for survival, war or even worse.

ΓÇÿDanceΓÇÖ alludes to the aesthetic and emotional journey of the event. What type of journey? ItΓÇÖs more and more rare to fully witness our internal landscape and find our personal proactive path. Most importantly, individualism pushes us to process complex stories and feelings by ourselves, resulting in a disconnection from the world.

Hence, ΓÇÿDance of FightsΓÇÖ opens a collective setting to embrace collective emotions.

The heart of the event is the artistic exposition, surrounded by performances, workshops, speeches, live music, a market and food. Teatro (the KABUL á GoGo café) will first host poetry, then live music and finally the after party.

How is this event possible?

This event is realised through community effort, mainly based on volunteer work. Stichting Handala collaborates to promote Palestinian arts, culture, and innovation.

The donations will first cover the costs of the event; the remaining part will contribute to a charity. ΓÇÿDance of FightsΓÇÖ wants to lay the foundations for a solidarity economy, where artists and local initiatives can profit from their creations. The ambition for the next editions is to redistribute the proceeds both among people who contributed to the event, and to charities or projects in the Global South.

This event is organised and curated by Alex Weavs (pseudonym of Alexandra Follador), an emerging Romanian-Italian curator based in Utrecht.
